Kiss? You? Seriously?
Pucker up, and get ready to make the slimy smooches.
You saw the preview, so you know the score – Evil Shadowman Dr. Facilier (Keith David) has put the hoodoo on Prince Naveen voiced to the hilt as spoiled royalty by Keith David. A mix up in fairy tale leads Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) the way of webbed feet and together with some wacky Cajun characters they must win the day.
If that was all there was to “The Princess and the Frog” you’d get your money worth. But right from the get go it sucks you in to the terrible beauty of 1900’s New Orleans seen through the lens of its less prosperous and the magical touch of Disney.
The movie has sass. It has an edge underneath the farcical butt jokes. It makes you care about the most ridiculous side character, Ray the firefly who is faithfully in love with a star, played with mush-mouth glee by Jim Cummings.
It’s a happy ending… of course it is, we are talking a Disney Princess Film here, but it takes you in directions you weren’t expecting. It goes all out with the sheer spectacle of rich colors and swampy humor. It makes you happy even if they stay frogs forever.
You’re in for a fun time – a spicy, Cajun-style romp.
Oh, and it’s mucous, not slime.
